Edward Moran was an English born American painter who specialized in ships and the sea. His oil paintings set carefully drawn sails and rigging against dark storm clouds or moonlit skies. Reflections stretch across the water beneath the vessels, allowing him to combine the detail of a ship portrait with the changing weather at sea.
