George Inness Oil Painting Reproductions |
George Inness was an American landscape painter whose later work helped define Tonalism. His oil paintings use closely related colors to unite the countryside in soft light. Details soften as mist and shadow spread across a scene. He saw landscape as a way to express spiritual feeling rather than record what a place looked like.
