Peder Severin Kroyer was a Danish painter associated with the artists' colony at Skagen. His oil paintings follow fishermen at work on the beach or friends gathering in summer gardens. In evening scenes the sea and sky share a luminous blue light, giving the familiar shoreline an unusual stillness as daylight fades across the water.
